Job Summary
This role leads, coordinates and implements the design process for larger, complex projects, from the initial programming & preliminary design, through design development, technical drawings and final installation drawings. Provide guidance, training and leadership to other Designers and Team Members. Execute big picture-thinking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in project scope discussions with Acre Sales Team to establish design approach, project timelines and project proposals.
Lead programing with client to better understand scope of project, specific client needs and overall design goals.
Conduct site inspections, field verifications, inventory of furnishings and evaluation of product reuse.
Develop conceptual designs, research special product needs and present solutions for design projects of varying complexities.
Prepare professional project presentations including product & finish documents and renderings, schematic design, and presentation materials on medium to large size projects.
Develop furniture and space plans, working drawings, electrical plans, product specifications and finishes/materials on medium to large size projects for client review.
Develop & coordinate material & finish schemes to create final finish plans.
Efficient project schedule planning and time management.
Acts as a lead design resource within area of assigned responsibility, to support sales staff in the completion of proposals & projects.
Lead client meetings to convey design solutions.
Meet all code compliance & verifications and execute technical drawings as applicable.
Follow Acre Design Service Standards and Best Practice guidelines for the department.
Fulfill requirements of Senior Interior Designer training established by Design Leadership.
Attend design/sales meetings and seminars within and outside the company for self-development.
Develop and maintain personal creative quality professionalism, project knowledge, and establish good working relationship with company personnel and clients.
Provide design proposals & track design time.
Strive for a productivity goal of 85% and low error rate to qualify for quarterly design incentive.
Partner with Architectural & Design firms and perform other interior design tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Interior Design from an accredited program and 5+ years’ experience in the commercial design field.
In-depth knowledge of the design profession and all its phases; from preliminary, conceptual activities through final plans, field observations & product installation.
Knowledge of professional interior design ethics and legalities, including contract proposals & code compliance.
Knowledge of planning principles for systems furniture and furniture symbols library familiarity.
Working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specifications and ability to coordinate same with interior requirements (including lighting, acoustics, design details, plans and elevations).
Substantial experience in coordinating the work of others on projects.
Good communication skills needed to convey design concepts to other designers, Acre personnel, and clients; and ability to ask questions as it relates to project expectations.
Effectively manage large workloads, and work under tight deadlines, along with strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to varying environments, tasks, & people.
Proficient in AutoCAD, CET Designer, Hedberg and Microsoft Office products.
Present a positive and professional company image.
Strong working knowledge of designated Steelcase or related products.
Required Qualifications
Must have passed the NCIDQ professional qualification exam or have over 7 years of interior design experience.
Physical/Mental Demands
This position can be performed while standing or sitting. Occasional bending, twisting, or reaching. The ability to climb stairs is required. Occasional lifting may be necessary up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. The ability to talk, listen, read, and write are important functions of this job. Working Conditions
This is a hybrid position with a preference to be in the office during the onboarding process. Occasional travel required within the Metro area. Occasional out of state travel to attend Steelcase Product School, Neocon/Design Days, trade shows, and/or industry conferences.
